Stephen Rountree is a visual journalist and illustrator based in Virginia. Over a career spanning print, digital, and editorial media, he has created illustrations and information graphics for National Geographic, Smithsonian, WIRED, Popular Science, U.S. News & World Report, the U.S. Navy, the United Nations, the Pew Research Center, and National Geographic, among others.

For many years he served as an artist and Graphics Director at U.S. News & World Report, leading a team that produced illustrations, information graphics, and maps across the magazine's print and digital platforms. His subjects have ranged from aerospace and military technology to medicine, science, and public affairs — always with the same goal: make the complicated clear.

His work has appeared in newspaper newsrooms, national magazines, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofit organizations.

Rountree continues to design, illustrate, and write from his home in rural Virginia.
